Being able to navigate confidently and accurately is an essential skill if you venture into remote terrain whether it is mountains, moorland, desert, coastlines, forests or environments with limited features like the arctic .In this day and age too many people simply rely on GPS alone and this can be a major issue as technology does break and it certainly doesn't work very well if dropped or if the batteries run out!

Map and compass skills are superb skills to have and these can easily be learn't with no previous experience. Once a number of key skills are absorbed and put into practice you will quickly find that navigation is not a black art but a very enjoyable activity that will open many new opportunities. Choosing more interesting routes on your outdoor journeys become the norm with your new found skills and you will navigate with confidence and excellent accuracy!
